Priyanka Chopra Reveals What She Really Thinks About Skin Lightening Products

Colorism is widespread all over the world, from the United States, to the U.K, and even to India. The idea that darker skin is less favorable, and that lighter skin is more attractive is pervasive in many societies. While people are starting to fight back against this notion, some people are coming forward with regret about the damage that their endorsement of colorism has caused.

Such as Priyanka Chopra, an international model who had dealt with her share of colorism in the past. In her early years as a model and an actress, Chopra did a commercial for a product that’s meant to lighten your skin. These products can be found in stores all over, with the idea that people – mostly women – with darker skin should be doing something to lighten it.

Chopra even admits that she had used it when she was younger, because her darker complexion made her feel self conscious. Now, Chopra is all about self-love, and is definitely taking a stand against what had once been an extremely harmful commercial.

Unfortunately, the product that Chopra was endorsing was harmful. Not only to people’s self-image, but to their very bodies. Skin bleaching products have ingredients like hydroquinone, which are potentially carcinogenic, and are banned in places like Europe and Japan.

It’s not the type of thing that you want to be putting on your skin on a regular basis – or the type of thing that should be endorsed. Chopra admits that she regrets ever endorsing such a product, or even using it.

Hindsight is always 20/20, but even now, speaking out against skin whitening products is something that Chopra can do to reverse the damage of her earlier endorsement. When people come together to speak out against companies that prey on insecurities and colorism, it’s a step in the right direction.
