Priyanka Chopra Campaigns For Gender Equality In The Film Industry

The Bollywood-turned-Hollywood actress, Priyanka Chopra, definitely turned heads at the Toronto Film Festival this month, but the main thing on her mind? Female presence in the film industry.

Priyanka, who also does a lot of charity work and has just been named a global UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, talked to the press and touched briefly the topic of actresses’ roles in movies. Complaining about the lack of diversity in these roles on the big screen, and behind it, she told journalists, “We’re so far behind, I mean we just had “Wonder Woman”, which is our first big major female superhero movie directed by a female. We’ve just had one director that’s ever won an Academy Award who is female ever in the history of entertainment. I mean, come on!”

And she’s not going to back down! The Quantico actress is planning on making it the topic of the conversation in order to make it easier for future generations of women to crack the film industry, and get the roles they want and truly believe in. “Because it’s gonna take people like me, like a lot of other women out there, to make it easier for the next generation”.
